FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) –This federal student aid site administers the process of qualifying families for, and awarding federally funded financial aid for post-secondary education. From the site you can learn about the process of filing for and obtaining grants, loans, and scholarships and how to apply for aid.

CSS Financial Aid Profile – To determine eligibility for non-federal financial aid such as a college or university’s own grants, loans, or scholarships, students apply via the CSS Profile, a secure, web-based system administered by the College Board. Several private colleges and universities require completion of the CSS Profile by any student seeking non-federal financial aid funds that are awarded by colleges and universities.

Finding ones that you qualify for can be tricky, and the amounts vary widely, so you may want to identify those that are substantial enough to be worth investing the time to apply. A couple of our favorites include $10,000 scholarships awarded by Kohl’s for kids who have helped improve their communities, and Courageous Persuaders, who award scholarships for creation of videos to discourage underage drinking.
